1. This Promotion is open to anyone, excluding employees of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), any RICS Professional active on RICS boards, local member groups and associations, and anyone professionally associated with the creation or administration of this Promotion.
  2. Entrants must ensure that their participation (including the acceptance of any prize awarded) is lawful in accordance with the laws of the country of which they are a citizen and/or resides. This promotion is void where void under local national laws. The Promoter shall not be taken to make any representations, express or implied, as to the lawfulness of any individual's participation, or as to any other aspect of any Promotion.
  3. Purchase is not necessary but internet access is required.
  4. Promotion Period: Enter between 09.00 GMT on 17th January 2018 and 23.59 GMT on 31st May 2018. Entries before or after this Promotion Period will be invalid.
  5. To Enter:
    Entrants may enter multiple times but only one complete entry per person can reach the shortlist phase.

    2. Choose a brief from the 3 available topics, and select one of the questions to answer. Read your chosen brief and download the entry document.
    3. Then, complete the entry document and submit it online with up to 5 images to support your entry, along with your title, first name, surname, email address, country of residence, RICS membership status, age range and current method of employment.
    4. Incomplete or invalid entries will be excluded from the judging process.
  6. The Prize:
    1. One winner will receive a £50,000 prize (or equivalent currency). Any local taxes or associated financial costs associated with the receipt of the prize are the sole responsibility of the winner.
    2. Nine shortlisted runners up will each receive a certificate from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
  7. Winner Selection: All entrants will be judged to select 12 shortlisted entries, on or before 23.59 18th July 2018 by Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors local members and employees, and independent industry figures. All entries will be judged on the following criteria:
    1. Relevance: the solution clearly ties back to the specific problem outlined in the brief/challenge;
    2. Impact: the solution stands to make a measurable impact on people, places, and business;
    3. Feasible: technically, economically, politically, legally and culturally acceptable – surveying principles will be applied in the judging;
    4. Scalable: the idea must solve the problem of a specific location and community, but must also have the scope to positively impact other cities around the world – surveying principles will be applied in the judging
    5. Exciting/Original: the idea must be interesting, original and genius!
  8. Once the 12 shortlisted entries have been selected, a panel of judges including Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors members, independent industry figures and PromoVeritas, the independent promotional verification service, will select the winner on or before 23.59 27th November 2018. The panel will judge the shortlisted entries based on the same criteria as stated in clause 7.
  9. The Promoter will send the full names of the judges to anyone who encloses a self-addressed envelope to the address to Cities for our Future administrator, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, 12 Great George Street, Parliament Square, London, SW1P 3AD within one month of the end of the Promotion requesting details of the judges.
  10. Winner Notification: Winners will be notified by email, via the email address provided on entry, 2 days after the Winner Selection and will need to respond within 14 days of the first contact received. If a winner does not respond within the 14 days of first contact, the Promoter reserves the right to disqualify that winner and pick the next placed entrant.
  11. Moderation: The Promoter will reject entries which, in the reasonable opinion of the Promoter:
    1. Contains any content that is offensive or could reflect negatively on the name, reputation, or goodwill of the Promoter or any brand partner;
    2. Includes trademarks, patents, logos, or copyright material not owned by you or used without the rights owner's prior written permission (including famous names, company names, etc.);
    3. Defames, misrepresents, or insults other people or companies, including, but not limited to the Promoter (including its partners); and
    4. Promotes any political agenda
  12. Prizes will be distributed within 28 days of the winner accepting the prize, via bank transfer.
  13. Any Prize awarded should not be used in such a way that brings The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors into disrepute. Any such use of a Prize will be considered a breach of the terms and conditions. In the event of such a breach of the terms and conditions the Promoter may seek recovery of the Prize from the winner.
  14. Prizes are non-transferable and no cash or other alternative to the runner up prizes are available in whole or in part. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, the Promoter reserves the right to substitute an alternative Prize of equal or greater value.
  15. The full names and region of the winners can be obtained by sending a self-addressed envelope to Cities for our Future administrator, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, 12 Great George Street, Parliament Square, London, SW1P 3AD which will be available after the end of Winner Selection for 4 weeks.
  16. By entering, entrants agree to participate in any reasonable publicity arranged by the Promoter or by its agencies.
    1. The winner will be expected to be involved in a reasonable level of marketing activities and events.
    2. If travel is required as part of these marketing activities and events, winners will be notified with reasonable notice (at minimum one calendar month) and any reasonable expenses will be reimbursed by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
    3. Shortlisted entrants may be required to attend an event to announce the overall winner in November 2018. If shortlisted entrants are unable to attend this will not negatively impact their chances of winning.
    4. If a shortlisted entrant is required to attend an event to announce the overall winner in November 2018, then reasonable notice will be provided (at minimum one calendar month) and any reasonable expenses will be reimbursed by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
  17. If you are the winner of the Promotion, you agree that the Promoter may use your name, image and region of residence to announce the winner of this competition and for any other reasonable and related promotional purposes, including but not limited to social media and email marketing campaigns addressed to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors membership database.
  18. By entering this Promotion, all participants will be deemed to have accepted that they are bound by the terms and conditions
  19. In the unlikely event that despite the Promoter’s best endeavors, they are unable to administer the Promotion fairly or properly, The Promoter and their affiliated companies are not responsible and have the right to cancel or change the Promotion. They will only do this in exceptional circumstances. The Promoter also has the right to disqualify a participant if they tamper or abuse the entry process and they will not be entitled to the prize if they have acted fraudulently or dishonestly.
  20. No liability is accepted for illegible, incomplete or late entries.
  21. The Promoter will only use the personal details supplied for the running of the Promotion and for no other purpose, unless we have your explicit consent. Your personal details will at all times be kept confidential and in accordance with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Privacy Policy available at: https://www.rics.org/uk/footer/terms/rics-privacy-policy/.
  22. All entries must be made directly by the person entering the Promotion.
  23. Bulk entries from trade, consumer groups or third parties will not be accepted. Incomplete or illegible entries and entries which do not satisfy the requirements of these terms and conditions in full will be disqualified and will not be counted.
  24. The Promoter may refuse to award a prize, or seek its recovery, in the event of an entrant's fraud, dishonesty or non-entitlement under these terms and conditions.
  25. The Promoter cannot accept any responsibility for any damage, loss or injury suffered by any entrant entering the Promotion or as a result of accepting or participating in any prize.
  26. The decision of the Promoter shall be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  27. These terms and conditions are governed by English Law and shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts or England and Wales.
